So I received my July box a few days late after finding it buried in a stack of mail and magazines in our office. Someone is in trouble. JK, but I was told it did arrive on time, so yay! we love that. Anyway, this is my first subscription box from Beauty Bar Sample Society (partnered with Allure Magazine.)
Costs: $15
Perks: 1.) $15-$50 off coupon for any BRAND in the box, not just the specific the product! They send deluxe sized samples since the products are a bit more pricey for the full size. This allows you to really be able to try the product before before deciding if it’s worth the money. This month, I received a $15 off- (and, let me tell you know, I WILL be using it!)
Perks #2.) Since they partner with Allure Magazine, you receive a mini magazine (5 pages) with hair, skin, makeup, hair and trends tips. Another little treasure inside this little but mighty box.
Once signing up, they’ll ask you to complete a personality questionnaire- I kind of remember this survey being more of a ‘skin-type, eye color’ kinda thing rather than a ‘gimme some glosses and I LOVE PINK!’ survey. Other beauty boxes are quite the opposite, so really do your research before signing up with your select few. Or one. Or all of them. :)
On the back of the coupon are the product descriptions. You can clearly see that I got some NICE products to try out.

LORD AND BERRY SILK KAJAL EYELINER IN BLACK- This liner just about compares to my can’t live without Urban Decay 247 Glide On Eye Pencil. Apparently ‘kajal’ has something to do with smudging (I did not know that until I just googled it, but now I totally recognize it on so many other products. SMH) This full size liner retails for $15, what we pay for the entire box. And with the $15 off coupon, this is starting to remind me of Extreme Couponing or something…. I’ve used it three times so far, and it does smudge very easily and stays put. However, if you like a strong line without much effort, I don’t think this is the liner for you. LOVE IT!

DR. T’S SUPERGOOP!CITY SUNSCREEN SERUM SPF 30- First of all, the product description clearly says ‘sunscreen serum SPF 30′ while the actual sample says ‘advanced anti aging eye cream SPF 37′. So, is it an eye cream or a sunscreen!? I’m going w/ the bottle and using it on my eyes. I’m ashamed to say this, but I wasn’t so excited for eye cream- honestly, I love my skin and I do take care of it, but I’ve never thought, “man, I really need some nice eye cream….” NOW, after 3 mornings and nights of using it, it’s kinda like “WHY haven’t I started to use eye cream?!” I am 24, and not getting any younger. I think I will be purchasing this Supergoop! eye cream- it’s super smooth and feels clean. My boyfriend even let me put it on his eyes last night and said “that smells really good.” It actually just smells like a fresh moisturizer, nothing special about the smell but we all know they secretly love using our beauty products and if he thinks it smells good, then it smells good. LOVE IT!
TRES PURE FACE TONIC – BBSS – JULY 2013 – STEVIENIKKIMAN
TRES PURE FACE TONIC- I LOVE face tonics and everything about this. I am a fan of the regular Evian facial spritz. This particular full size bottle retails for $65, so I’m really glad the sample size has enough product to last about a week or 2 of regular usage. It smells SO fresh and the second it touches your face, it just feels right. The bottle reads “…softens the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles; helps firm skin while preventing dehydration; promotes growth of healthy new skin cells; purifies and helps balance balance the skin to reveal radiance; and leaves skin feeling supple and smooth…” That description is SO on point. I WILL be purchasing this product- thank you $15 off coupon!
*I work in functional/holistic/preventive/anti aging medicine and this product is SO amazing that I’m immediately adding it to my list of “MUST HAVES” recommendations of beauty products suggested to our patients. It has only 3 ingredients which makes it even better.*

JANE IREDALE TANTASIA SELF-TANNER- Again, another product I was like “eh” upon reveal. Self tanners just aren’t my thing. I have olive skin, very dark complexion and have no problem getting a tan. I can say that this does smell dreamy- like an orange Creamsicle. I’ve smelled fake tans on my friends and it’s not so hot so maybe I’ll give this bottle to one of them. :) It does seem very smooth and easy to blend, but as it smells like an orange Creamsicle, its color is reminiscent of one too. Oh, and also when I was getting some of the product out, I had to bend, squeeze and roll the bottle to get to the product. Needless to say, I will not be buying this product or evening finishing the sample. Other reviews I’ve read have been great, so I guess it’s just one of those things for the RIGHT person.
ECRU NEW YORK SHAMPOO – BBSS – JULY 2013 – STEVIENIKKIMAN
ECRU NEW YORK LUXE TREATMENT SHAMPOO- This deluxe sample size only offers about only 2 uses for me. I’ve only used it once so far. (Love you, dry shampoo!) For a luxe shampoo brand, honestly its consistancy seems a bit thin. It smells SO clean and is enriched with lots of vitamins and oils. When I was massaging it onto my scalp, not a lot of suds and bubbled happened like I usually like. The description reads “…amino acids deeply nourishes the scalp while soy bean lipids and gardenia extract smooth each strand, leavening your hair all sorts of fabulous…” That does sounds amazing, and ladies, I hope it works for you, but I’ll stick with my Matrix Biolage Chamomile Deep Nourishing Shampoo.

So after a few days of review, am I happy with July’s box? YES!!!!! I got a great eyeliner just in the knick of time, I am very excited and thrilled to be adding 2 new products into my collection and I now have a great gift idea for my self-tanner loving friend!
